Descending 500m

Her cold embrace I seek
Her dark depths I do explore
Far beneath the breathing world I find solace
I am descending 500m

(I thought up the first line on the silent cab ride back to my flat, I thought of incorporating that into a different poem... then changed my mind and placed it as the header for a black poem about scuba diving, hint "black".)

Leaving

The sun is vermillion today... that sort of orangey red color when there's too much dust in the air.
The air is so dry.
I feel so dry, parched inside.
I gotta get out of here.

You know where I want to be?
In a place where I can wake up in the morning and go to sleep at night and NOT be hassled.
Not hear an angry word spoken against me.
Not be on my guard,
Not have to watch my words,
I don't have to explain myself
I want to be a place where I can be me,
And I am loved.
And its not here, thats for sure.

If she loves me

If she loves me she will return in the Spring
As my garden is filled with flowers
And the poppies bloom with the colors of the rainbow

She will arrive in the midday
And come rest under the shade of my roof
(...)
We will watch as the evening sun ends in golden splendor
And in the twilight we will embrace.

Welcome to Valhalla

Welcome to Valhalla, visitor dear
Climb this stairway to a different paradise.
Fantasia, for short
Where the dreams are wrought in the furnance of one's mind
But nightmares are won.
So Dream all.
Endure the stinging arrows of adversaries and battle on.
Oh break these chains
Break these clumsy fetters
That bind my imagination to the ground.
And let us battle on
Fearing none. Daring all.
The tea break is at ten.
Thus ride on my fear comrades
Mount the steed. Grip the sword.
There are many battles to be lost.
Come, dare all. Life's a final suicide.
It has to be made the most of
In Valhalla.

Emily Dickinson - If you were coming in the fall (winter)

I have a friend, a close friend, and she's going away. We've talked about our friendship for awhile and she wants to move on. After a long time thinking about it, I think its good. And perhaps in time, in another place, we shall carry on our conversation again. If you are reading this - Carolyn - this is for you. Its by Emily Dickinson.

If you were coming in the fall,
I'd brush the summer by
With half a smile and half a spurn,
As housewives do a fly.

If I could see you in a year,
I'd wind the months in balls,
And put them each in separate drawers,
Until their time befalls.

If only centuries delayed,
I'd count them on my hand,
Subtracting till my fingers dropped
Into Van Diemen's land.

If certain, when this life was out,
That yours and mine should be,
I'd toss it yonder like a rind,
And taste eternity.

But now, all ignorant of the length
Of time's uncertain wing,
It goads me, like the goblin bee,
That will not state its sting.

Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson is one of my favourite poets. However, she's not someone I would probably bring along for a long journey.

She had a fascination with death - and dwelled on it a fair bit. One of her editors ran out of her house after spending sometime with her - he found her morbid.

However, she does have a bright side. A little glimmer through the dark clouds. Here's one of her "positive" poems.

I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.
